As we peek into this story set around 1910, we see Ruby, an orphan girl, who has heard of Santa Kloss and how he takes in orphan boys and teaches them carpentry.

She convinces her headmistress to let her travel to see Santa. "He'll teach me carpentry, too!" she asserts, but of course this is 1910, and 'only boys do carpentry'.

Can a determined orphan girl convince Santa that she can learn carpentry, too?
